About Department of Defence
Project Analysis and Advice (PAA) provides support and advice on DSTG’s role in the Defence
capability acquisition process. This includes preparing and delivering briefings to DSTG senior
leaders ahead of Defence investment committees, in collaboration with subject matter experts.
PAA also prepares and assures Technology Risk Assessments (TRAs) for Defence capability
acquisition projects and contributes to Cabinet and Ministerial submissions through the provision
of evidence-based technology advice.
The team supports DSTG’s contribution to Defence capability planning by strengthening analytical
approaches, promoting consistency in advice, and fostering a collaborative and inclusive work
environment aligned with Defence values.

Duties
- The Role
- As a Senior Innovation, Science and Technology (IS&T) Analyst, you will play a key role in the
- development of DSTG’s analytical advice on complex Defence capability issues. The role brings
- together insights from across DSTG to produce clear, well-supported advice that informs senior
- decision-making.
- The position involves both structured analytical work and time-sensitive tasking aligned with senior
- committee cycles. You will work with others to navigate ambiguity, bring together differing expert
- perspectives, and support the development of advice that is coherent, balanced and
- evidence-based within required timeframes.
- In this role, you will take a more active role in shaping outputs, supporting the quality of teamwork,
- and contributing to improvements in analytical approaches and processes. You will also play an
- important role in guiding work across activities and supporting the quality and consistency of team
- outputs.
- Key responsibilities include:
- Coordinate consultation, input and quality assurance for Technology Risk Assessments for
- Defence capability acquisition projects
- Prepare and deliver clear written and verbal advice and briefings for senior stakeholders
- within required timeframes
- Work with subject matter experts to bring together diverse inputs into well-supported
- positions
- Provide context by linking technical advice to broader Defence priorities and investment
- considerations
- Apply sound judgement in situations where guidance may be evolving or unclear
- Organise and prioritise work across multiple concurrent tasks in a dynamic environment
- Support and guide the quality of team outputs, including reviewing and contributing to the
- work of others
- Identify opportunities to improve processes, frameworks and analytical approaches, and
- adapt to new ways of working
- Build and maintain effective working relationships across DSTG and Defence
Eligibility / Notes
- Security Clearance:
- Applicants must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance at “Negative Vetting Level 1”.
- Mandatory Qualifications:
- Degree in science, technology, engineering, or a closely related field
