About Federal Court of Australia

The Chief Executive Officer and Principal Registrar of the Federal Court, together with officers and staff identified under the Federal
Court of Australia Act 1976, the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia Act 2021 and the Native Title Act 1993, constitute a
single Statutory Agency for the purposes of the Public Service Act 1999. Employees are engaged to work in support of the
following courts or tribunal: • Federal Court of Australia, • Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia, and • National Native Title
Tribunal. Employees are covered by the Federal Court of Australia Enterprise Agreement 2024-2027. The Federal Court and the
Federal Circuit and Family Court each maintain a distinct statutory identity, with separate functions and judicial independence.

Duties

  • contributing to, and representing the interests of the FCA on Corporate Services committees
  • and forums on administrative and operational issues (such as property, procurement, IT,
  • security);
  • providing strategic advice to the Deputy Principal Registrar about administrative and
  • operational issues and improvement opportunities for the FCA;
  • acting as a conduit for the Court’s engagement with Corporate Services, and fostering strong
  • relationships with executives and staff, to ensure the achievement of FCA priorities;
  • designing and leading administrative and operational initiatives and projects, including
  • liaising with judges, registrars, staff and other key stakeholders as directed;
  • assisting the Deputy Principal Registrar with the management of division budget and
  • appropriations;
  • leading, managing, and mentoring nominated staff in the Office of the Deputy Principal
  • Registrar; and
  • performing other duties as required or directed from time to time.

  • A degree in business administration or similar discipline will be highly regarded. Experience in a
  • Court environment will also be highly regarded.
  • Selection Criteria
  • To undertake this role the successful applicant must have:
  • Extensive experience in operational management and project delivery;
  • Highly developed strategic thinking, problem solving, and analytical skills;
  • Strong communication, liaison and presentation skills, including the ability to facilitate
  • engagement with people at all levels in a dispersed environment;
  • An understanding of the operating environment of the Federal Court (or the ability to acquire
  • such an understanding quickly);
  • A detailed understanding of corporate services functions and their role in the achievement of
  • organisational priorities;
  • A proven ability to:
  • work proactively both under broad direction and independently to achieve goals and quality
  • outcomes in a complex environment; and
  • build and sustain positive relationships with a network of key stakeholders across an
  • organisation.
