About Department of Veterans’ Affairs

The Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA) exists to fulfil the nation’s duty to support our serving and ex-serving Australian Defence
Force members and their families. We do this through programs of care, compensation, commemoration, income and Defence
support services. Our aim is to enhance self-sufficiency, quality of life, financial wellbeing and community recognition for those we
support. DVA is both a policy and service delivery agency. We have strong relationships with Australian ex-service organisations,

Duties

  • Provide high-quality, client-focused support to ADF members, veterans and families of
  • veterans in line with Agency policies, procedures and performance expectations
  • Provide advice and guidance on legislation, policies and services, including in writing, with
  • support from senior staff where required
  • Work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders, including Defence, ESOs and
  • industry partners, to support service delivery
  • Assist with outreach and representational activities, including presentations at ADF
  • seminars, transition events and stakeholder forums
  • Support the delivery of services aligned with the Joint Transition Authority and other Defence
  • programs
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of stakeholder relationships to improve
  • service outcomes
  • Assist with the management of Defence Notifications, including identifying clients who may
  • require additional support and facilitating referrals
  • Prepare and contribute to written materials and resources for the veteran community
  • Identify clients who may be at risk or have complex needs and refer to appropriate support
  • services, including the Agency’s Wellbeing Case Coordination function
  • Work collaboratively as part of a geographically dispersed team, contributing to team
  • objectives and continuous improvement activities.

Eligibility / Notes

  • Under section 22(8) of the Public Service Act 1999, employees must be Australian citizens to
  • be employed in the Australian Public Service (APS).
  • All applicants external to DVA offered employment will be required to successfully undergo a
  • pre-engagement screening check, even if they have a security clearance. The screening
  • check is conducted in accordance with the Australian Government Protective Security Policy
  • Framework requirements.
  • The successful candidate will be required obtain and maintain a Baseline Vetting (AGSVA)
  • security clearance.
  • Mandatory Requirements
  • Capacity to travel and ability to undertake overnight travel and work after hours and on
  • weekends (if required)
  • Hold a current Australian driver’s licence
  • Work locations are local Defence bases, ESO facilities and DVA offices up to five days per
  • week
