About Federal Court of Australia

The Chief Executive Officer and Principal Registrar of the Federal Court, together with officers and staff identified under the Federal
Court of Australia Act 1976, the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia Act 2021 and the Native Title Act 1993, constitute a
single Statutory Agency for the purposes of the Public Service Act 1999. Employees are engaged to work in support of the
following courts or tribunal: • Federal Court of Australia, • Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia, and • National Native Title
Tribunal. Employees are covered by the Federal Court of Australia Enterprise Agreement 2024-2027. The Federal Court and the
Federal Circuit and Family Court each maintain a distinct statutory identity, with separate functions and judicial independence.

Duties

  • In consultation with the Chief Justice and Judges, coordinating and leading the management
  • of Chambers staff;

  • Identifying and advising on issues and improvements in managing Chambers staff in the
  • FCA;
  • Liaising with Judges and Chambers staff on performance, workplace behaviour and work
  • health and safety issues;
  • Collaborating with the Director of Judicial Support in Court and Tribunal Services on
  • recruitment and induction requirements, processes and practices for Chambers staff;
  • Assisting the Chief Justice and the Chief Justice’s Chambers in the management of judicial
  • workplace conduct complaints;
  • Providing support and mentoring for the management of challenging staffing issues
  • generally, and managing such issues as required;
  • Collaborating and liaising with People and Culture team on behalf of the FCA;
  • Supporting various FCA Judicial Committees; and
  • Performing other duties as required or directed from time to time.

Eligibility / Notes

  • Formal Qualifications
  • A degree in human resource management, workplace relations or similar qualification will be
  • highly regarded. Experience in a Court environment will also be highly regarded.
  • Selection Criteria
  • To undertake this role the successful applicant must have:
  • Extensive experience in human resource management and workplace relations;
  • Extensive experience in leading and managing staff in the workplace, including in complex
  • environments;
  • Highly developed communication and stakeholder engagement skills;
  • Knowledge of the legislative and policy framework applicable to the Australian Public
  • Service, with demonstrated experience in interpreting and applying legislation, guidelines
  • and policies.
  • Knowledge of the FCA, including the role and expectations of Chambers staff (or the ability
  • to acquire this quickly);
  • A proven ability to:
  • work proactively both under broad direction and independently to achieve goals and quality
  • outcomes in a complex environment; and
  • build and sustain positive relationships with a network of key stakeholders across an
  • organisation.
