About the Opportunity

Join the Detention Health Clinical Advisory Section (DMHCAS) within the Clinical Advice and Assurance Branch. You’ll contribute to clinical assurance programs, health governance, and quality improvement across detention and migration health services. The role involves collaboration with diverse teams, external health providers, and ABF colleagues to deliver evidence-based health outcomes for people in immigration detention and processing centres.

Duties (What You Will Do)

Responsibility Key Tasks
Clinical assurance coordination Coordinate desktop, virtual and onsite clinical assurance for contracted health services at Department sites in Australia and overseas.
High-quality reporting Draft audience-tailored written reports and briefs that support robust decision-making; edit for clarity and impact.
Health risk and issue briefs Provide input into briefs and correspondence on health risks and complex detention/migration health issues.
Evidence-based advice Offer advice on health systems, data analysis, standards, indicators, policy and SOPs; lead or participate in education/quality projects.
Risk assessments Conduct risk assessments of clinical incidents; escalate risks in a timely manner.
Stakeholder review Review complex issues with internal and external stakeholders, including contracted health services providers.
Governance and compliance Adhere to departmental operating, record keeping and security policies.

About You (Eligibility)

  • Tertiary qualifications in Nursing; current APHRA registration.
  • Minimum five years’ experience as a Registered Nurse in healthcare settings.
  • Experience in healthcare quality and risk leadership; knowledge of NSQHS standards and regulatory frameworks.
  • Strong communication skills with diverse audiences; collaborative and inclusive team orientation.
  • Ability to interpret policy and operate in a dynamic environment; professional judgement with risk awareness.
  • Desirable: post-graduate qualifications in quality assurance/public health/clinical governance; experience in detention health or related settings; strong technical writing skills.
  • Eligibility: Australian Citizenship; Baseline Vetting security clearance (and related clearances as required).
