Our Ideal Candidate
The successful candidate will have a strong and broad understanding across all aspects of the
project and product life cycle. They will have the ability to exercise judgement under pressure, an
eye for detail, strong analytical skills, well-developed governance skills, applied business and
commercial acumen.
The successful candidate will also have:
Extensive experience in all aspects of project management and/or product management
across multiple lifecycle stages including transition into sustainment.
Extensive experience spanning commercial acumen, strategic planning, complex
stakeholder engagement and negotiation skills.
The ability to build and maintain strong, trusted relationships with a diverse range of senior
stakeholders, including Royal Australian Navy personnel, United States counterparts, other
Defence Groups and industry partners.
A demonstrated experience of managing a budget and the multi-disciplinary workforce
required to deliver prioritised outcomes.
A proven ability to lead a geographically dispersed team to achieve quality outcomes in a
high tempo environment.
A strategic thinker who can demonstrate a strong understanding of organisational strategies,
long-term investment plans, and related frameworks, and how these influence the
acquisition, delivery, and sustainment of capability.
Highly developed communication skills, self-drive, and initiative with the ability to influence
others both up and down the management chain to achieve tasks and business objectives.

Duties
- The Role
- The Project Director (Effects) is responsible for leading and managing a complex program of work
- across the acquisition and sustainment portfolio. The role leads the delivery of all aspects of the
- Nulka Decoy Capability to the Royal Australian Navy, while also coordinating and supporting
- associated activities for the United States Navy. The role provides senior leadership and strategic
- oversight to ensure this capability continues to meet Defence and Government priorities and
- supports Australia’s longstanding Defence partnership with the United States.
- Essential to success in this role is the ability to lead, integrate, and harness the efforts of
- multidisciplinary teams. Key attributes include a strong outcomes focus, the capacity to marshal
- geographically dispersed teams and leverage their specialist expertise, and the ability to build and
- sustain effective relationships with stakeholders across the Electromagnetic Warfare and
- Intelligence Systems (EWIS) Maritime Systems Program Office (SPO), Defence, industry, and the
- international partners. The role requires a demonstrated commitment to problem solving, with the
- agility and responsiveness to adapt to evolving objectives, pressures, and priorities.
- This role requires domestic travel as well as occasional international travel.
- This role is eligible for an additional remuneration benefit known in Defence as a Building Defence
- Capability Payment (BDCP). This enables Defence to provide a premium, in addition to the base
- salary otherwise payable under the Defence Enterprise Collective Agreement (DECA), for
- positions in occupational disciplines/classifications that are critical to Defence capability. For
