About Department of Defence

The Guided Weapons and Explosive Ordnance (GWEO) Systems Division plays a key role in
delivering critical capability for Defence. The Division works to ensure that Australia has access to
modern, reliable, and effective guided weapons and explosive ordnance, while strengthening
sovereign capability and supporting national security objectives. This is achieved through close
collaboration with industry, international partners, and stakeholders across Defence, helping to
support the full lifecycle of capability, from initial concept through to delivery and sustainment.
Within this, GWEO Air Branch focuses on supporting Air Force capability, working as part of an
integrated team to deliver outcomes that enable Defence operations. The Branch works closely
with stakeholders to manage complex challenges, support decision making, and ensure capability
remains effective, safe, and fit for purpose.
Together, GWEO Systems Division and GWEO Air Branch contribute to a coordinated, forward
looking approach that strengthens Defence capability, supports operational readiness, and helps
ensure Australia is well positioned to respond to future challenges.

Our Ideal Candidate
To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate:
In-depth knowledge of logistics management within a comparable large organisation.
Strong leadership capability with experience managing teams and developing workforce
capability.
Proven ability to operate with a high degree of independence and sound judgement.
Experience in policy development, implementation, and compliance.
Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
Strong analytical and problem solving ability, particularly in complex environments.
Understanding of legislative frameworks and decision making processes.
This position is based in Canberra, ACT, and relocation is required for the successful candidate.
This role has people management responsibilities and requires demonstrated leadership
capability.

Duties

  • The Role
  • An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced EL 1 Logistics Manager to join the GWEO Air
  • Branch. Working within an integrated workforce, you will lead the delivery of complex logistics
  • management outcomes that support Defence capability.
  • This role requires strong leadership, sound judgement, and deep expertise in logistics
  • management within a Defence context. You will operate under broad direction, providing strategic
  • advice and ensuring alignment with legislative frameworks, government decision-making
  • processes, and Defence policy requirements.
  • As the EL 1 Logistics Manager, you will:
  • Lead and manage a team, including setting priorities, allocating resources, and evaluating
  • business outcomes.
  • Provide clear leadership through coaching, mentoring, and performance management to
  • build a high performing team.
  • Develop, implement, and review logistics management strategies, policies, procedures, and
  • processes.
  • Deliver logistics outcomes that support Defence units and operational capability.
  • Analyse, review, and report on logistics performance, identifying opportunities for continuous
  • improvement.
  • Provide expert advice on logistics policy, legislation, and best practice to internal
  • stakeholders.
  • Manage complex to very complex logistics issues, delivering practical and strategic
  • solutions.
  • Build and sustain strong relationships with key stakeholders across strategic and operational
  • levels.
  • Plan and manage human and financial resources to achieve program objectives.
  • Lead projects and initiatives that may impact strategic or operational outcomes.
  • This position is based in Canberra, ACT, and relocation is required for the successful candidate.
