About Australian Competition and Consumer Commission
The ACCC is an independent statutory authority that administers the Competition and Consumer Act 2010 and other Acts. The
ACCC works to promote effective competition and fair trading in the market place to benefit consumers, business and the
community, and efficiency in the delivery of certain infrastructure services. The AER is a part of the ACCC. The AER is Australia’s
national energy market regulator and has an independent board. The AER shares employees, resources and facilities with the
ACCC.
Duties
- Work individually, or with others, to identify, research and analyse relevant information to
- draw evidence-based conclusions on competition issues including making appropriate
- recommendations about next steps.
- Prepare high quality documents including papers, voluntary and compulsory information
- requests, correspondence, reports, and briefs.
- Interview witnesses, complainants and/or market participants.
- Interpret and apply legislation, policies, and procedures.
- Engage, support, and work collaboratively with a range of other people, including
- marshalling expertise from lawyers, experts, and other ACCC branches to develop analysis.
Eligibility / Notes
- In order to succeed in the role, you will have:
- A good understanding of the ACCC’s role, purpose and objectives, together with knowledge
- (or the ability to attain such knowledge quickly) of the competition provisions of the
- Competition and Consumer Act 2010 and related legislation.
- Tertiary qualifications in investigations, law, economics, accounting, or similar fields.
- Ability to work flexibly and effectively in a team during times of uncertainty and high
- pressure.
- Strong oral and written communication skills and a commitment to achieving high quality
- outcomes.
- Sound research, analytical, judgement, critical-thinking and conceptual skills.
- Proven ability to proactively assess and prioritise multiple competing tasks.
- Successful candidates at each level will also demonstrate the following criteria:
- APS4: an ability to work flexibly and effectively in a team, assisting in drafting, research and
- review of relevant information.
- APS5: a higher degree of technical expertise, and degree of responsibility for delivery of
- outcomes.
- APS6: a greater degree of responsibility for delivery of outcomes and supervising junior staff
- on matters and projects, with an ability to work more independently.
