About Department of Defence

The APS 6 Workforce Officer will work as part of the Business Management Team, which is a
Divisional level team within the MPD Executive, working in support of Head Military of Personnel
(HMP).
The Business Management functions across the BMT include Resource Management,
Governance and Assurance, Workforce Management, Procurement and Contracting and
Communications.
Our staff are subject matter experts, delivering specialist advice and support to HMP and the
Branches of MPD. You will join a supportive team that values creativity, encourages new ways of

Reserve uniformed military personnel, Australian Public Service (APS) employees and
contractors.

to develop proficiency.

Duties

  • The Role
  • We are seeking a motivated and forward-thinking APS 6 Workforce Officer to join our team and
  • play a key role in driving workforce strategies that enable organisational excellence within Military
  • Personnel Division (MPD).
  • In this role, you won’t just manage workforce processes—you will drive innovation. You will assist
  • to develop creative solutions that support organisational capability and performance by
  • challenging the status quo, embracing new ideas, and contributing within a collaborative
  • environment.
  • The APS 6 Workforce Officer will undertake Australian Public Service (APS) workforce tasks such
  • as the oversight and management of MPD Average Staffing Levels (ASL), APS position &
  • establishment management and the implementation and execution of Division-wide centralised
  • APS recruitment and reporting.
  • You will also build knowledge and develop proficiency in Australian Defence Force (ADF) and
  • Reserve workforce practices to support a unified approach to workforce management across the
  • Division.
  • Key duties include:
  • Supporting the Deputy Director Workforce and Communication in MPD workforce
  • management activities.
  • Providing guidance and assistance on APS establishment and management policies and
  • practices, including monitoring and reporting to Divisional Branches.
  • Develop and implement innovative workforce strategies and solutions, including a
  • centralised Divisional approach to APS recruitment and position management.
  • Evaluate and improve processes to enable informed decision making at Branch and
  • Divisional level’ work.
  • Build and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Assist in managing ADF workforce taskings by coordinating activities and support the
  • development of improved processes.
