About Department of Defence

that Defence Finance Group (DFG) tackle. Working in the Financial Accounting and Asset
Accounting team means you will be applying your professional judgement and knowledge to a
huge range of complex accounting issues. Project Finance Governance Directorate team is
accountable for policy advice, compliance assurance, conducting quality assurance checks on
financial accounting activities and liaison with external auditors.
The Asset Accounting team is responsible for the full financial reporting and the financial
accounting of Defence’s assets through their capability lifecycle. The teams are responsible for the
financial accounting of the largest asset base in the Commonwealth valued in the hundreds of
billions of dollars. Think big, physical tangible assets like aircraft, ships, submarines plus a huge
property portfolio, specialist military equipment, complex intellectual property and bespoke

Expertise in using Microsoft suite and technical abilities in presenting large data using data

Duties

  • The Role
  • The Financial Accounting and Assets Directorate is seeking a highly motivated and capable APS 5
  • Financial Reporting Officer to contribute to the management, valuation and reporting of Defence’s
  • significant and complex asset portfolio. This role presents a unique opportunity to support the
  • financial stewardship of one of Australia’s largest asset bases, valued at approximately $158
  • billion, while building expertise in financial accounting, asset valuation, data analytics, business
  • improvement and stakeholder engagement.
  • Working under limited direction, you will perform complex asset management and financial
  • reporting activities within an integrated workforce. You will apply and maintain an understanding of
  • Commonwealth financial legislation, accounting standards and policy frameworks to support
  • informed decision-making and ensure compliance with Defence and Government requirements.
  • As an APS 5 Financial Reporting Officer, you will be responsible for managing your own workflow,
  • exercising sound judgement and making informed decisions within your area of responsibility. You
  • will interpret legislation, policies and procedures, provide technical advice to stakeholders, identify
  • and resolve routine compliance issues, and undertake research, analysis, reviews and
  • investigations to support high-quality financial outcomes.
