About Department of Defence

The Office supports the Inspector-General of the Australian Defence Force in performing their
statutory role of overseeing the effectiveness of the military justice system.
The Business Management and Governance Directorate reports to the Assistant Secretary
Enabling Functions and delivers corporate and governance support across the Office. It also holds
overarching responsibility for business management functions.
The Directorate is an integrated team comprising APS staff, ADF members and ADF reservists.

Duties

  • The Role
  • The Director Business Management and Governance leads a high-performing directorate
  • responsible for delivering critical corporate and governance functions for the Office of the
  • Inspector-General of the ADF.
  • In this role, the Director serves as a key corporate enabler, driving the effective coordination of
  • organisational activities, including:
  • Designing and overseeing robust governance, assurance and compliance frameworks.
  • Leading planning cycles and performance reporting to deliver strategic and operational
  • outcomes.
  • Leading organisation and program risk management, including identifying, assessing and
  • mitigating risks, and maintaining effective assurance processes.
  • Managing resources and budgets through organisataion-wide financial planning and
  • oversight.
  • Managing ministerial coordination, ensuring timely, high-quality briefs, correspondence and
  • responses in line with government requirements.
  • Providing strategic oversight of procurement and contracting to ensure compliant, effective
  • and value-for-money outcomes.
  • Leading the delivery of corporate and administrative services, ensuring efficient, effective
  • and compliant office operations.
  • To achieve these activities, the Director Business Management and Governance will:
  • Build team capability, set direction and foster a high-performing accountable culture.
  • Collaborate across the Office and Government more broadly to align priorities and deliver
  • outcomes.
  • Ensure the Senior Leadership Team is supported adequately through high-quality briefings
  • and advice.
  • Lead business transformation initiatives, streamline processes and embed best practice
  • governance.
