About Australian Centre for Disease Control
The independent Australian Centre for Disease Control (Australian CDC) is at the frontline of improving Australia’s ability to prepare
for, and respond to, public health challenges, including pandemics. The Australian CDC is an independent technical advisory
agency on public health matters and a leader in disease control, preparedness, response, and prevention. The Australian CDC
collaborates with national and international health bodies to strengthen Australia’s public health infrastructure.
Duties
- To succeed in this role, you will demonstrate:
- Exceptional leadership skills, with ability to lead a multidisciplinary team and foster a
- positive, safe, inclusive and highly effective team culture.
- Strong strategic, collaborative and negotiation skills to drive national One Health direction.
- Ability to influence senior stakeholders across government and sectors, consistent with the
- OHU’s role as knowledge brokers and national leaders and maintain trusted relationships
- with expert groups.
- Proven ability to build and maintain productive working relationships across sectors and with
- government agencies, NGO’s, industry and researchers.
- Comprehensive understanding of the One Health and public health landscape in Australia
- and internationally.
- Knowledge across human, animal and environmental health systems, consistent with OHU’s
- coordination role.
- Strong motivation with problem solving skills, flexibility and resilience for navigating complex
- emerging threats.
- Ability to manage government budget processes, new policy proposals, cabinet submissions,
- reports, briefing papers and Ministerial documents.
- Planning and organisational skills, including ability to meet deadlines with competing
- priorities in a changing, high-pressure environment.
- Ability to represent the CDC in an appropriate forum.
- Sound judgement, integrity and accountability consistent with APS Values and the Australian
- Government Style Manual.
Eligibility / Notes
- To be eligible for employment with the Australian CDC, applicants must be an Australian citizen at
- the time an offer of employment is made.
- An applicant’s suitability for employment with the CDC will also be assessed through a variety of
- pre-employment check processes, such as:
- Satisfactory completion of a criminal history check, and where relevant, a Working with
- Children and Vulnerable People Check,
- Completion of a medical declaration and pre-employment medical (where required),
- Providing evidence of qualifications (where required), and
- Obtaining and maintaining a security clearance at the required level.
- For this role, senior leadership experience preferably in One Health or a related field and the
- ability to obtain and maintain Baseline security clearance is required.
