About Department of Defence
The Logistics Performance Improvements Team is a blend of APS and contracted staff, including
some who work remotely from Canberra.
There are currently two streams of work focus. The first stream employs technical software
development, data interrogation and AI applications to support the Branch innovate and automate
its business processes. This includes offering tailored software application assistance and data
insights to other parts of the Command and department.
The second stream of work is primarily focused on supporting the Branch understand and utilise
data within the new ERP system as compared to historic Defence data systems.
Collectively the Logistics Performance Improvements Team is leading the way to ensure the
Branch’s stocktaking compliance and assurance activities, and data needs, appropriately adapt to
ERP.
There is a necessary requirement to test and validate data accuracy as needed to support the
Branch’s role in assuring Defence’s annual financial statements and ANAO reporting obligations.
Our Ideal Candidate
Our ideal candidate brings senior experience in enterprise analytics, logistics business
intelligence, or performance improvement – ideally within Defence or a similarly complex
environment.
You will have a demonstrated record of translating complex data into actionable insights that drive
measurable improvements in logistics capability, policy, assurance and audit outcomes.
You will be an inclusive and strategic leader, adept at guiding multidisciplinary teams of APS staff,
contractors, and technical experts to deliver innovative, outcome-focused solutions. Your ability to
engage, influence, and communicate with a wide range of stakeholders—from assurance and
system owners to capability managers—is essential.
You will have contributed to major organisation business processes or digital transformation
initiatives, and will understand the challenges and opportunities they present. You will also
demonstrate a deep commitment to the APS and Defence values, professional integrity, and
continuous improvement.
Duties
- The Role
- This leadership role is central to driving data-informed improvements across Defence’s logistics
- enterprise. You will lead complex analytics, business intelligence, and performance initiatives,
- translating complex logistics asset, inventory and financial data into clear, actionable insights,
- digital solutions and policy reforms.
- Managing deputy directors and multidisciplinary teams, you will deliver enterprise-level
- improvements that enhance capability and address risk.
- A key focus will be analysing logistics data to identify performance issues, support audit
- remediation, and implement targeted, measurable solutions. You will utilise personal subject
- expertise, in-system tools and artificial intelligence to provide strategic advice to senior Defence
- leaders. Your advice will contribute to reform strategies, and champion innovation through digital
- innovation, reporting systems, and web-based platforms.
- The role involves representing the Logistics Assurance Branch in enterprise forums and fostering
- a culture of analytical excellence and continuous improvement. Interagency credible, senior
- engagement and relationship management with stakeholders such as the Australian National
- Audit Office is also key to this role.
- You will also maintain oversight of methodologies and frameworks that support logistics assurance
- and performance. This is an opportunity to shape Defence logistics through insight, leadership,
