About Department of Defence

The Aerospace Surveillance and Response (ASR) Branch forms part of the Air Systems Division
(ASD) and is responsible for the acquisition and sustainment of the Australian Defence Force fixed
wing ASR systems. The ASR Executive Team is a small team of ADF, APS and contractor
personnel that provides direct support to Director General ASR and our three System Program
Offices (SPOs) situated across Australia.

Duties

  • The Role
  • The Deputy Director Integrated Work Package (IWP) and Finance is responsible for managing the
  • Major Service Provider contract and associated financial management for the Aerospace
  • Surveillance and Response (ASR) Branch within the Department of Defence. This role ensures
  • that external service providers deliver the required resources to support agreed work efficiently,
  • within budget, and aligned with business needs.
  • The position has multiple focuses, including internally coordinating and consolidating requirements
  • and funding across stakeholders, externally managing the contract and its performance, and
  • overseeing financial management activities such as budgeting and expenditure tracking to ensure
  • value for money. The role also oversees contracted “work packages” (bundles of tasks and
  • services), ensuring they are well planned, delivered on time, and achieve intended outcomes,
  • while managing resources, performance, reporting, and includes elements of people management.
  • The DDIWP&F acts as a key link between the external service provider and internal teams,
  • helping to ensure clear communication, resolve issues, and maintain delivery momentum. The role
  • works closely with senior managers and stakeholders across the organisation to support the
  • successful delivery of services.

  • This role is eligible for an additional remuneration benefit known in Defence as a Building Defence
  • Capability Payment (BDCP). This enables Defence to provide a premium, in addition to the base
  • salary otherwise payable under the Defence Enterprise Collective Agreement (DECA), for
  • positions in occupational disciplines/classifications that are critical to Defence capability. For
