About Department of Defence

The WMS Directorate of approximately 20 staff, sits within Workforce Design (WD) Branch of
Military Workforce Design Division. WMS is an integrated team of ADF and APS staff with diverse

levels of skills and experience. The position reports to the Director of WMS, an ADF Officer level
06, and leads a small team of two APS data analysts. The Directorate partners with Services and
Domains to assess and support their readiness to deliver Government-directed workforce growth.

priorities in a dynamic environment will be key to our shared success. Experience with Defence
systems and workforce planning principles will be highly regarded.

Duties

  • The Role
  • The Workforce Modelling and Simulation (WMS) Directorate uses advanced modelling and
  • simulation to design an ADF workforce demand profile that is affordable, achievable, sustainable,
  • and integrated with approved capability requirements across all planning timeframes. This
  • includes analysing capacity and risk across the workforce pipeline—from recruitment through
  • initial military and employment training, to workforce integration. The goal is to enable units to
  • absorb increasing numbers of trainees and sustainably build workforce capacity.
  • Key outputs include workforce inflow (recruitment) and training requirements, as well as workforce
  • criticality assessments across all ADF Job Families. In this role, you will deliver data-driven
  • support to outputs through advanced data modelling and management. Using Defence enterprise
  • data, you will lead and collaborate with technical teams to transform and validate data, generating
  • actionable insights that inform strategic workforce planning and track ADF workforce growth
  • against directed targets.
