Duties
- The Commissioner of Taxation is seeking a highly experienced senior leader with a strong track
- record of overseeing delivery of corporate and enabling services to join the senior leadership team
- as the ATO’s Chief Operating Officer.
- As the Chief Operating Officer, you will provide enterprise wide strategic and operational
- leadership as a key member of the ATO Executive, working closely with senior leaders in the ATO
- and across the APS, state and territory governments and sectors, to strengthen performance and
- deliver lasting, organisational wide change.
- In this role, your senior leadership experience will enable you to lead the Enterprise Strategy and
- Corporate Operations (ESCO) Group, overseeing the ATO’s core enabling functions, including:
- finance and procurement
- human resources
- governance
- communications and media
- parliamentary and external engagement
- enterprise risk and integrity, and
- general counsel legal services (unrelated to tax).
- Providing strong stewardship of these functions you will ensure they are integrated,
- forward-looking and responsive to the needs of the ATO and government.

- be accountable and deliver outcomes that align with the long-term perspective
- find innovative and practical solutions, be open to ideas and engage with risk

- persuade others towards an outcome, maintaining the confidence of government and
- stakeholders
- be self-aware and courageous, empowering individuals and teams to deliver their best
- build trust and confidence in the ATO and the tax and superannuation systems.
- To be considered you must have:
- demonstrated ability to lead at a senior executive level, shape organisational direction and
- deliver whole-of-organisation outcomes in complex environments
- proven experience leading diverse corporate or enabling portfolios, ensuring strategic
- alignment, strong governance and high-quality outcomes, with demonstrated expertise in
- one or more of the relevant functions
- strong track record in organisational leadership, lifting performance and fostering a culture of
- accountability, adaptability and continuous improvement
- highly developed strategic influence, building trusted partnerships and delivering
- forward-looking advice across people, finance, governance and communications.
- This role may be ongoing or non-ongoing and the successful candidate can be based at one of our
- locations across Australia.
