About Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission

The Culture, Diversity and Inclusion section drives the Commission’s commitment to a positive
workplace culture and an inclusive workforce. This section is responsible for initiatives that support
diversity and inclusion across the Commission and uplift employee cultural capability.
Key focus areas of the section include, but are not limited to:
Supporting deliverables under the Reconciliation Action Plan and other First Nations
activities
Overseeing affirmative recruitment measures and entry programs
Leading workforce culture initiatives and implementation plans
Managing ways of working program, flexible work, and workforce engagement initiatives.
Coordinating diversity and inclusion programs, internally and in line with APS strategies and
programs.

The Indigenous Liaison Officer delivers initiatives to uplift cultural capability, provides pastoral care
to First Nations staff, and provides guidance and advice to inform culturally safe and inclusive
practices. The Indigenous Liaison Officer coordinates consultation with and provides support to
the Commission’s Indigenous Staff Network and Indigenous Champion.
This role contributes to the effective implementation of the Commission’s Reconciliation Action
Plan (RAP); continued cultural capability uplift within the Commission; and implementation of First
Nations initiatives that supports diversity and inclusion programs aligning with broader
Commission First Nations priorities

Duties

  • Work with Commission staff to develop and maintain the internal processes, systems,
  • documentation and reporting required for the successful running of internal programs and
  • events.
  • Mentor First Nations staff, including participants of the Indigenous Apprenticeship Program
  • (IAP) and Indigenous Graduate Program for their success within the program and at the
  • Commission.
  • Provide cultural protocols advice to managers and staff across the Commission.
  • Enable cross-cultural awareness and learning opportunities for Commission staff.
  • Represent the Commission as required at Indigenous-related meetings and events.
  • Assist with implementation of RAP deliverables.
  • Contribute to the broader team and section objectives, as required.
  • Key Capabilities:
  • Develop, monitor, evaluate and continuously improve programs.
  • High quality written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare
  • high-level documents.
  • Maintain productive relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage with First Nations employees and a solid understanding of
  • Australian Indigenous cultures and Australian Indigenous community groups.
  • Deal with sensitive, confidential, and complex matters in a culturally safe manner.
  • Essential requirements:
  • Demonstrated strong connections with First Nations peoples and community.
