Duties

  • What you will do
  • To be successful in the role, you will need to:
  • Prepare and manage contracts for the maintenance of Australian Government assets on
  • Norfolk Island, including the procurement of new services and monitoring of existing
  • arrangements
  • Negotiate respectfully and effectively with a broad range of stakeholders
  • Possess a sound understanding of workplace health and safety legislation and its application
  • to the building and construction industry
  • Have a proven track record in supervisory roles within the building and construction industry
  • Manage scheduled maintenance activities across multiple sites
  • Support the management of significant construction projects and report on progress to the
  • Norfolk Island and Mainland Territories Branches
  • Manage the asset management plans for Australian Government assets on Norfolk Island.
  • Provide high quality and timely reports on the progress of projects
  • Manage and develop systems to report on projects and comply with the site reporting
  • requirements
  • Develop and support productive working relationships with a range of internal and external
  • stakeholders to respond to needs, manage expectations, develop solutions and solve
  • problems.
  • Provide advice to, and liaise with, Australian Government agencies and officials on Norfolk
  • Island related matters.

  • As an APS6 Project Manager, you will demonstrate the following capabilities aligned to APS Work

  • including identifying risks and implementing mitigation strategies.
  • Builds and sustains stakeholder relationships Engages effectively with a broad range of

  • Norfolk Island community, negotiating respectfully and managing expectations.
  • Applies business acumen and risk management Demonstrates an understanding of
  • procurement, contract management and administrative processes, with the ability to identify,
  • assess and manage risks in line with government requirements.
  • Supports team leadership and supervision Provides day-to-day supervision and support
  • to staff, contributing to performance management and fostering a positive and productive
  • team environment.
  • Brings relevant industry experience Demonstrates experience in the building and
  • construction industry, including supervision or project management of maintenance and
  • capital works activities.
  • Works independently with accountability Takes responsibility for own workload, operates
  • with a high level of autonomy, and demonstrates accountability for outcomes consistent with
  • APS Values and Code of Conduct.

  • Eligibility requirements
  • Employment with the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development,
  • Communications, Sport and the Arts is subject to conditions prescribed within the Public Service
  • Act 1999 including:
  • Citizenship: candidates must be an Australian citizen at the time of submitting your
  • application.
  • Health Assessment: The preferred candidate may be required to undergo a medical
  • examination conducted by the department’s preferred medical provider.
  • Security Clearance: The successful candidate must be able to obtain and/or maintain a
  • security clearance at Baseline level. You must be willing to disclose all relevant and required
  • information. You must have lived in Australia, or have a checkable background, for at least
  • the preceding five years for Baseline Vetting clearances. More information on the security

  • Police check: The successful candidate must complete an Australian Federal Police
  • criminal history check.
