About the Opportunity

You will lead the Space Domain Awareness and Control Systems Program Office, shaping the sustainment of crucial Defence space capabilities. The role sits at the centre of strategy, delivery and stakeholder engagement, ensuring that sustainment planning, risk and financial management align with Defence objectives. You’ll work with a diverse team of APS staff, ADF personnel and contractors, driving high performance in a fast‑paced environment.

Our Space Systems Branch brings together professionals from project management, engineering, commercial and logistics disciplines. You’ll collaborate across Defence and government partners, with travel occasionally required and a mandatory Negative Vetting 2 security clearance (with the ability to attain Positive Vetting). If you’re a proven leader who can translate complex policy and product management into clear action, you’ll fit right in.

Duties (What You Will Do)

Key Responsibility Specific Tasks
Lead and manage a multi‑disciplinary team Set expectations, communicate consistently, manage performance and behaviours, delegate effectively, and develop individuals and the team.
Advice on processes and policy Interpret and guide on business processes, corporate compliance, and Defence policy; navigate complex issues within governance frameworks.
Product management and sustainment planning Provide best‑practice product management advice to support sustainment outcomes; align planning, risk, finances, scheduling and decisions with programme objectives.
Stakeholder engagement Establish and maintain relationships with strategic and operational stakeholders.
Travel and security Occasional travel; NV2 clearance is required with potential progression to PV.
Team location and collaboration Coordinate with Space Domain Awareness and Control Systems Program Office, Adelaide sustainment teams, and Brindabella Park colleagues in Canberra.

About You (Eligibility)

  • Extensive knowledge of product management methodologies and Defence product management disciplines.
  • Strong business acumen and commercial judgement; ability to balance cost, risk and performance.
  • Proven leadership of teams in high‑tempo environments; focus on performance and capability development.
  • Excellent communication and engagement skills; capable negotiator and relationship builder.
  • High‑level organisational skills, initiative and self‑drive.
  • Security clearance: Applicants must be able to obtain and maintain Negative Vetting Level 2 clearance (and ideally PV in due course).
  • Technical proficiency as required by program management, scheduling and risk management frameworks.
