Duties
- The key responsibilities of this position will include:
- Analysing and evaluating scientific and technical information and applying risk assessment
- and management principles;
- Considering and applying scientific advice and legislative requirements to develop
- evidence-based recommendations to the decision maker regarding the registration or
- permitting of agvet products;
- Preparing correspondence, and assisting in the preparation of briefs, manuals, reports,
- guidelines and policies;
- Liaising with internal and external stakeholders to resolve issues in an appropriate and timely
- manner;
- Building and sustaining positive relationships with team members and stakeholders;
- Compliance with legislation and guidelines. Ensuring compliance with relevant legislation,
- regulatory requirements and guidelines;
- Adhering at all times to provisions for the management of confidential commercial
- information;
- Developing an understanding of the role and responsibilities of the APVMA, and the
- Australian Public Service (APS) more broadly.
Eligibility / Notes
- To be a strong contender for the role, you will have:
- Essential:
- Tertiary qualifications in a relevant scientific discipline such as veterinary medicine, animal
- science, biology, zoology, pharmacology, or animal physiology.
- Knowledge of, or experience in the regulatory and legislative environment of veterinary
- chemicals in Australia, and familiarity with international best practices related to preparing
- risk assessments for veterinary chemicals.
- Analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to evaluate and provide pragmatic
- advice on complex scientific information.
- Ability to work independently and prioritise a complex workload, while maintaining a high
- standard of accuracy and meeting legislative and organisational timeframes.
- Effective oral and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate clearly and
- confidently, develop and support complex relationships, and represent the Authority at a
- limited number of forums.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team and train other team members as
- required.
- Desirable:
- Experience in either veterinary medicine, pharmacology and therapeutics, animal science,
- zoology, product development or chemical regulation (or other relevant disciplines).
- Relevant work experience in the APS.
