About Attorney-General’s Department

The Attorney-General’s Department delivers programs and policies to maintain and improve Australia’s law and justice framework,
and to facilitate jobs growth through policies that promote fair, productive, flexible and safe workplaces. Through the Australian
Government Solicitor, we also provide legal services to the Commonwealth, including legal advice and representation. Our
department is the central policy and coordinating element of the Attorney-General’s portfolio. Our department is structured into four
groups: • Australian Government Solicitor • Justice and Communities • Integrity and Security • Enabling Services The department
operates in a diverse and complex environment to address challenging issues. We have a highly-skilled and engaged workforce
involved in policy development and implementation and program administration. The department also has a large number of
practicing lawyers, mainly within the Australian Government Solicitor Group within the department.

Duties

  • Employment Opportunity
  • We are looking for an IT Security Officer to support classified computing platforms for court
  • officers and legal stakeholders across Australia.
  • The ideal candidate will have ICT support experience and knowledge of, or the ability to quickly
  • develop knowledge of, classified systems and Australian Government security requirements,
  • including the PSPF, ISM and Essential Eight.
  • Under the guidance of the Assistant Director, Cyber Security, this role supports the delivery of
  • classified computing systems. The successful candidate will communicate clearly, manage tasks
  • effectively, provide practical guidance to stakeholders, follow documented cyber security
  • procedures and escalate complex issues as required.
  • Key Responsibilities:
  • build, configure and deliver classified computing platforms for legal proceedings, including
  • security briefings for judges, lawyers and counsel
  • assist with HACE and CAM requirements by following policies, procedures and
  • record-keeping requirements
  • support continuous improvement of classified computing services, processes, standard
  • operating procedures and support documentation
  • support cyber security awareness by sharing information and promoting security-conscious
  • behaviours
  • support courts and legal stakeholders to access classified material pre-trial and at trial,
  • including regular interstate travel, sometimes for extended periods or at short notice.
  • How you can help us make a difference
  • Key Requirements:
  • basic knowledge of Australian Government standards, such as the Protective Security Policy
  • Framework (PSPF) and the Australian Government Information Security Manual (ISM)
  • sound knowledge of, or the ability to quickly develop knowledge of, the Australian Cyber
  • Security Centre’s (ACSC) Essential Eight maturity model
  • experience managing and maintaining Windows 11 desktops, Active Directory and Group
  • Policy is highly desirable
  • ability to apply sound judgement, understand operational priorities and communicate
  • effectively with stakeholders
  • ability to contribute to continuous improvement and practical changes to processes and
  • service delivery
  • experience identifying and documenting technical risks in IT systems, and escalating issues
  • in line with established procedures
  • ability to share knowledge, support colleagues and contribute to team learning and
  • improvement activities.
  • Desirable qualifications:
  • Certification and/or membership of relevant professional organisations, including CISSP,
  • Security+, CISA, CISM, SABSA, GIAC or SANS.
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information
  • Technology or Cyber Security.

  • To be eligible for employment at the Attorney-General’s Department applicants must be Australian
  • citizens.
  • Applicants offered employment will be required to successfully undergo a police record check and
  • be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance at a specified clearance level. The successful
  • applicant must be willing to disclose all relevant and required information.
  • Successful applicants engaged into the APS will be subject to a probation period.
