About Department of Defence
The Defence People Research and Evaluation Hub (the Hub) was established in January 2026 to
implement Recommendation 116 of the Royal Commission into Defence and Veteran Suicide. The
Hub provides central and strategic oversight of people research functions in order to improve the
quality, evaluation, translation and sharing of research findings both internally in Defence and
across relevant government agencies.
The Hub consists of four distinct yet inter-related directorates being. Strategic Alignment
Governance and Ethics, Research integration, Translation and Engagement, Enterprise People
Research and Enterprise Evaluation and Insights.

The role requires the ability to think strategically, formulate concepts, set priorities and consider

professionally while supporting team wellbeing and maintaining a positive, constructive approach.
You will also apply strong subject matter expertise or experience in human research governance,
evaluation and/or translation.
Duties
- The Role
- There are two vacant director positions:
- Director Research Integration, Translation and Engagement
- The EL 2 Director leads the Research Integration, Translation and Engagement directorate,
- providing strategic direction, governance, and enterprise leadership to ensure Defence research
- and evaluation activities are effectively integrated, translated, and communicated to inform
- evidence based decision-making.
- The role is accountable for delivering an end-to-end engagement ecosystem that connects
- research generation with practical application—ensuring insights are accessible, usable, and
- embedded in policy, strategy, and workforce decision-making.
- Director Evaluation and Insights
- The EL 2 Director leads the Evaluation and Insights team providing strategic direction, mentorship,
- stakeholder management and enterprise leadership to deliver the enterprise survey function and
- build an evaluation capability in support of Defence people strategies, policy and programs.
- The role is accountable for delivering an end-to-end insights and evaluation support ecosystem
- that connects enterprise data collection with monitoring and evaluation expertise — uplifting the
- measurement and evaluation capability across the people domain.
