The International Engagement team is a small team responsible for advancing Defence’s digital
interoperability agenda through capability management and international collaboration. We work
across the Defence enterprise and with Australia’s closest partners to align priorities, influence
future capability development and strengthen Defence’s ability to operate as part of an integrated
force.

We are seeking a collaborative and outcomes-focused leader who can build influence, navigate
complexity and bring together diverse stakeholders to achieve strategic outcomes.
The successful candidate will demonstrate:
Experience leading people, programs or portfolios in a complex environment.
Strong understanding of government, public sector environments, large-scale program
delivery, or digital transformation.
Experience working across organisational boundaries to shape priorities and deliver
outcomes.
Excellent communication, negotiation and stakeholder engagement skills.
A strong level of digital and ICT literacy, with the ability to engage confidently with technical
specialists and understand the implications of emerging technologies, architectures and
interoperability approaches.
The ability to provide clear advice and exercise sound judgement in complex and evolving
environments.
A strong focus on delivery and achieving enterprise outcomes.
Experience with cross-organisational collaboration, multi-stakeholder environments,
international engagement, or complex capability/program management would be highly
regarded.

Duties

  • The Role
  • The Director International Engagement leads Defence Digital Group’s international interoperability
  • portfolio, shaping collaboration with allies to strengthen digital integration and support coalition
  • operations.
  • This role combines strategic leadership, capability management, and international engagement.
  • You will set interoperability priorities, represent Australian Defence in key allied forums, and
  • influence multinational initiatives shaping future capability design and delivery. Working across
  • Defence and global partners, you will identify opportunities, manage competing priorities, and
  • drive outcomes that enhance information sharing, capability integration, and operational
  • effectiveness.
  • Key responsibilities include leading interoperability programs, building relationships with Five Eyes
  • and other partners, representing Defence in international forums, influencing interoperability
  • initiatives, and providing strategic advice to senior leaders. You will also maintain awareness of
  • ICT and interoperability trends, lead a multidisciplinary team, and ensure effective governance,
  • planning, and delivery across a complex portfolio of projects.
