About Department of Defence

Defence seeks to transform the ADF’s Integrated Air & Missile Defence (IAMD) capability into a
fully networked, fifth-generation force better able to protect its airspace and vital assets from
increasingly complex and lethal air and missile threats. The IAMD Program team seeks to deliver

the capability to enable a Joint Force that is better able to operate independently and
co-operatively. The Program will be innovating by delivering capability outcomes via agile delivery
methods.
JABMS will form the core architecture of Australia’s IAMD Program by employing a multi-layered
System-of-Systems architecture and applying cutting-edge technologies to decision-making (e.g.
Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning) will integrate the ADF’s and allied current and future
Air Defence capabilities.
The Commercial Directorate meets the procurement, contract management, probity, export control
compliance needs of the various elements of ADS Branch and the JABMS projects.

Duties

  • The Role
  • The Commercial Advisor role is an existing position within the Commercial Directorate in Air
  • Defence Systems (ADS) Branch and is responsible for enabling Joint Air Battle Management
  • System Command and Control (JABMS) projects and ADS Branch commercial administration
  • needs.
  • It will provide you the opportunities to:
  • Provide meaningful support to ensure probity compliance for the high-profile JABMS projects
  • and ADS Branch, through management of the Probity On-Boarding Mailbox and Register
  • under the guidance of a Probity Manager.
  • Learn about and provide Export Control compliance support for JABMS projects and the
  • ADS Branch.
  • Co-ordinate the Commercial Directorate’s Weekly Reporting requirements.
  • Support a busy team with Commercial & Procurement Administration and general
  • administration needs.
  • This role has been identified as requiring access to International Traffic in Arms Regulations
  • (ITAR) controlled technologies. The ITAR is United States (US) law that controls the manufacture,
  • sale, use and access of Defence and military end-use articles on the United States Munitions List.
  • It is the policy of the US to deny exports of ITAR controlled technologies to proscribed countries.
  • This may also apply to access by persons who hold or have held a citizenship, or current
  • permanent residency, of said countries. Defence utilises workforce mechanisms to mitigate these
  • restrictions, which will require applicants provide details of all current citizenships and permanent
  • residencies, as well as previously held citizenships. Defence collects citizenship details to confirm
  • an applicant’s eligibility for the role and to maintain compliance with international obligations.
  • This role is eligible for an additional remuneration benefit known in Defence as a Building Defence
  • Capability Payment (BDCP). This enables Defence to provide a premium, in addition to the base
  • salary otherwise payable under the Defence Enterprise Collective Agreement (DECA), for
  • positions in occupational disciplines/classifications that are critical to Defence capability. For
