About Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in

The Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care’s (the Commission) role is to lead and coordinate national
improvements in the safety and quality of health care. The Commission works in partnership with the Australian Government, state
and territory governments and the private sector to achieve a safe, high-quality and sustainable health system. In doing so, the
Commission also works closely with patients, carers, clinicians, managers, policymakers and healthcare organisations. Key
functions of the Commission include developing national safety and quality standards, developing clinical care standards to
improve the implementation of evidence-based health care, coordinating work in specific areas to improve outcomes for patients,
and providing information, publications and resources about safety and quality. The Commission works in four priority areas: 1.
Patient safety 2. Partnering with patients, consumers and communities 3. Quality, cost and value 4. Supporting health professionals
to provide care that is informed, supported and organised to deliver safe and high-quality health care. For more information please

Duties

  • Duties of the APS6 Project Officer will include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Undertake project management activities including input into project planning and
  • documentation; assistance with implementation; monitoring and reporting on progress,
  • identifying problems and proposing possible solutions.
  • Research, review and analyse data, reports, published material and expert opinion to
  • provide information and advice to support the development of projects and program
  • initiatives.
  • Collate, edit and draft meeting papers, correspondence, discussion papers, submissions,
  • consultation materials, briefing notes and other written materials associated with the
  • program.
  • Provide secretariat support for committees and expert groups, including preparation of
  • agenda papers, meeting notes, logistics and other administrative tasks.
  • Undertake procurement and contract management activities including financial
  • administration and budget preparation and monitoring as necessary.
  • Collaborate with other team members and other program teams within the Commission to
  • support the work of the team.
  • Liaise with national and state authorities, professional organisations, individuals and
  • non-government organisations to progress the program’s work priorities.

  • Support for the National Hand Hygiene Initiative help desk service.
  • Other duties as required which may include projects and providing assistance to the
  • Commission’s corporate functions, such as assistance with reception duties.

Eligibility / Notes

  • The successful candidate will have:
  • Demonstrated experience in providing secretariat (committee) support to large state or
  • national subject matter committees.
  • Demonstrated experience in budget management, tracking and forecasting.
  • Demonstrated experience in end-to-end procurement, including developing and evaluating
  • requests for quotation, contract preparation and contract management, in a government
  • setting.
  • Demonstrated high level organisational skills, including the ability to manage competing
  • priorities and show initiative in meeting deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to write high level documents, such as briefing papers, for a range of
  • audiences.
  • Demonstrated highly developed communication and interpersonal skills and ability to
  • develop productive working relationships with a range of stakeholders.
