About Department of Defence
Armaments Systems Engineering delivers and supports a variety of engineering services related
to armaments and weapons systems including missiles, torpedoes, medium caliber gunnery and
naval artillery, close in weapons systems and small arms. Tasks include weapon selection,
inspection and investigation of armament incidents, defect investigation and repair plans.

Demonstrated ability to coordinate, manage and report on Intermediate Level technical
maintenance activities.
Demonstrated ability in providing technical assurance of equipment, systems and processes.
Practical application and experience of engineering/technical judgement through assessing
condition of physical assets.
Strong skill sets in analysing, synthesising and presenting technical information and data in a
clear and concise manner that aids decision making.
Demonstrated capability to influence key stakeholders in order to achieve effective strategic
outcomes.
Ability to work in a fluid environment, remaining flexible, agile and adaptable supporting
colleagues at short notice.
Highly developed verbal and written communication skills as well as familiarity using
standard office software applications.
Duties
- The Role
- Mk 41 Vertical Launch System Test Director and Guided Weapon SQEP are Technical
- Professionals with extensive knowledge and experience within the category of guided weapons,
- hold an appropriate engineering or science degree, diploma or trade, and preferably graduates of
- the Mk41 Vertical Launch System In-Service Engineering Agent/Field Service Representative
- course conducted at NSWC Port Huneme. They may choose to apply for Technologist Warrant
- Holder 1 or 2 depending upon their experience and associated eligibility for membership with
- Engineers Australia. They should be specialised within the Guided Weapon system category.
- They will supervise Intermediate Level maintenance activity including Installation and Check Out
- activities. They will provide specialist advice on maintenance and training and feedback regarding
- the effectiveness of associated maintainer certification programs. They will participate in
- identification, selection, training, assessment, and certification of Mk41 VLS I-Level maintainers.
- They will participate in review, amendment and development of associated policy.
- This role has been identified as requiring access to International Traffic in Arms Regulations
- (ITAR) controlled technologies. The ITAR is United States (US) law that controls the manufacture,
- sale, use and access of Defence and military end-use articles on the United States Munitions List.
- It is the policy of the US to deny exports of ITAR controlled technologies to proscribed countries.
- This may also apply to access by persons who hold or have held a citizenship, or current
- permanent residency, of said countries. Defence utilises workforce mechanisms to mitigate these
- restrictions, which will require applicants provide details of all current citizenships and permanent
- residencies, as well as previously held citizenships. Defence collects citizenship details to confirm
- an applicant’s eligibility for the role and to maintain compliance with international obligations.
