About Australian Federal Police

As Australia’s national policing agency, the AFP is a key member of the Australian law enforcement and national security
community, leading efforts to keep Australians and Australian interests safe both at home and overseas. The AFP also has
responsibility for providing community policing services to the Australian Capital Territory and Australia’s territories, including
Christmas Island, Cocos (Keeling) Islands, Norfolk Island and Jervis Bay

Duties

  • The Cyber Security Governance and Outreach section within the Cyber Security and Risk Branch
  • focuses on assuring compliance through policy, education and reporting.
  • Our goal is to strengthen the AFP’s cyber security culture and risk posture by driving workforce
  • awareness, compliance and accountability through timely communication of emerging threats,
  • clear security guidance, targeted education and measurable assurance activities.
  • Responsibilities of the section include:
  • Development, implementation and maintenance of Cyber Security Policies and supporting
  • documentation to provide direction, guidance and protection for the organisation.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant regulations, policies, and standards, and keep abreast of
  • legislative changes. Including but not limited to PSPF, ISM and the Essential Series.
  • Provide support and advice on governance, risk, and compliance matters to internal teams
  • and senior management.
  • Support the identification, development and assurance of information security risk controls.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to establish and maintain effective communication channels
  • on Cyber Security matters.
  • Monitor and report on key performance indicators related to governance activities.
  • Provide support and guidance, in consultation with physical security, on international travel
  • and international work from home requests
  • Continual improvement opportunities within the Cyber Security and Risk Branch.
  • What will you do?
  • Band 7 responsibilities include:
  • Develop and maintain Cyber Security policies for the AFP, in line with Whole of Australian
  • Government policy directions.
  • Provide high quality Cyber Security Policy advice to AFP appointees in a timely manner.
  • Engage actively in cross branch collaboration, working closely with team members and
  • stakeholders to achieve shared objectives.
  • Mentor and support Team Members within the Cyber Security Governance and Outreach
  • team.
  • Track and provide details of policy information requests and waiver requests, highlighting
  • trends and potential gaps in policy.
  • Other duties as required.

Eligibility / Notes

  • Essential Requirements
  • You must be an Australian Citizen at the time of application.
  • A Negative Vetting 1 (Secret) security clearance or the ability to obtain one.
  • Well-developed written and oral communication skills.
  • Contemporary knowledge and experience relevant to the role.
  • Relevant qualification or extensive experience and knowledge in area of expertise.
