About Australian Securities and Investments Commission

To succeed in this role you will be a qualified lawyer with:
High level legal knowledge and skills including:
understanding of civil procedure and the rules of evidence
experience advising on matters involving corporate governance, financial services
regulation, consumer protection or related areas of law.
Significant post-admission experience conducting complex civil litigation (typically a
minimum of 6 years’ post admission experience) including developing case theories and
strategy, providing advice on evidence, drafting court documents and instructing counsel.
High level communication, mentoring and knowledge management skills.
This opportunity would be particularly suited to an experienced Senior Associate or
Managing Associate from a leading litigation practice.

  • We are seeking an experienced to join ASIC’s Civil Litigation Team within Senior Lawyer
  • Enforcement Legal Services. This role offers the opportunity to work on complex, high-profile
  • regulatory litigation matters that have a significant public interest and consumer protection focus.
  • Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Canberra, Adelaide or Perth
  • EL2 – ($152,074–$202,614) depending on experience, plus 15.4% superannuation
  • Permanent role

  • The team
  • The Legal Services team is responsible for the delivery of legal services across ASIC and is
  • instrumental in driving ASIC’s reputation as a modern and effective regulator.
  • Within Legal Services, the Civil Litigation team leads ASIC’s in-house litigation practice. Our
  • Litigation Counsel act as solicitor on the record and are responsible for the conduct of ASIC’s
  • regulatory civil litigation in the High Court, Federal Court and the State Supreme Courts. The team
  • also manages external law firms engaged to act for ASIC and provides strategic guidance in those
  • matters.
  • The role
  • As a Senior Lawyer in the Civil Litigation Team you will work on complex litigation alongside
  • leading litigators and subject matter experts, to contribute to outcomes that have a meaningful
  • impact on Australian consumers and financial markets.
  • You will be required to:
  • work in teams led by a Litigation Counsel to conduct ASIC’s regulatory civil litigation;
  • provide strategic leadership and advice in regulatory civil matters where ASIC has engaged
  • an external law firm;
  • provide expert legal advice to investigation teams;
  • participate in the professional development of other lawyers and the building of ASIC’s
  • knowledge base.
