Duties
- The Community Services Group develops, maintains and analyses national data to support
- monitoring and reporting of:
- the health and welfare of key subpopulations, including older Australians, people with
- disability, dementia, and victims and perpetrators of family, domestic and sexual violence
- use of services within a range of health and welfare sectors, including community-based
- services focused on aged care and disability
- pathways and outcomes for the general population, key subpopulations and health and
- welfare service users.
- There are three aged care units in the Community Services Group: the Aged Care Data
- Improvement Unit, the GEN and Aged Care Data Unit, and the Ageing and Aged Care Analysis
- Unit.
- The Ageing and Aged Care Analysis Unit (AACAU) undertakes analysis and reporting on a range
- of ageing and aged care related topics, including delayed discharge of older people from hospital
- and the aged care interface, health and well-being in aged care, timeliness of access to aged care
- services, the aged care workforce, and the National Aged Care Quality Indicator Program.
- We are looking for a highly motivated Senior Data Analyst (ASP6) to undertake analysis of
- National Aged Care Data Asset data in the National Health Data Hub, specifically to examine
- hospitalisations due to self-harm in older people using aged care services.
- The successful candidate will be required to use R studio in the RON environment, and be able to
- plan, structure, code and produce analytical outputs using hospital (ICD codes), emergency
- department (ICD codes), aged care and deaths data.
- Under EL1 direction from the project lead and a senior analyst the candidate is required to define
- the study cohort and undertake the required analyses while ensuring quality assurance checks
- and technical documentation is maintained for reproducibility. Experience in the analysis of linked
- data and associated methods including cohort definitions, descriptive techniques and
- time-to-event analyses are required, as is expertise in R studio.

- Previous experience with analysis of complex and/or large datasets for either health, hospitals or
- health systems data is desirable.
- Under general direction you will:
- Undertake analysis of linked, hospitals, emergency department, aged care and deaths data
- for a product describing hospitalisations due to self-harm in older people using aged care
- services.
- Undertake the analysis in the RON environment using R studio, including development of a
- Data Analysis Plan, following best practice coding structure, QA and script annotation
- approaches, and maintaining technical notation of coding and analytical decisions.
- Apply a range of statistical methods (e.g. cohort definition, descriptive and time-to-event
- analyses) to produce high quality outputs.
- Assist with the interpretation of findings, write up of methods and technical notes. and in the
- communication of findings, including being able to explain methods and findings in lay terms.
- Be a team player and work effectively to the project lead and with other team members.
- Contribute to the planning, organising and managing of projects and be able to deliver high
- quality work within agreed and expected timeframes.
