About Federal Court of Australia
The Chief Executive Officer and Principal Registrar of the Federal Court, together with officers and staff identified under the Federal
Court of Australia Act 1976, the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia Act 2021 and the Native Title Act 1993, constitute a
single Statutory Agency for the purposes of the Public Service Act 1999. Employees are engaged to work in support of the
following courts or tribunal: • Federal Court of Australia, • Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia, and • National Native Title
Tribunal. Employees are covered by the Federal Court of Australia Enterprise Agreement 2024-2027. The Federal Court and the
Federal Circuit and Family Court each maintain a distinct statutory identity, with separate functions and judicial independence.
Duties
- Duties
- Develop, write, edit and coordinate highquality communications across media, digital and
- corporate channels. This may include, web and social media content, assisting with media
- statements and other published materials.
- Proactively deliver clear, accurate and audiencefocused content that supports public
- understanding of the Court’s role and work and is aligned with organisational requirements
- and APS communication standards.
- Planning and delivery of integrated communication and engagement activities and
- campaigns, contributing to strategic objectives and key organisational priorities.
- Monitor media coverage, public commentary and inquiries relevant to the Court, identify
- emerging issues or reputational risks, and escalate matters appropriately with sound
- judgement and discretion.
- Develop, contribute to, and maintain communications administrative systems.
- Respond to routine media and stakeholder inquiries and assist in the preparation of media
- responses, statements, talking points, ensuring accuracy, consistency and sensitivity.
- Contribute to the management, governance and performance monitoring of media, social
- media and digital channels, including content planning, moderation and reporting.
- Build and maintain strong, collaborative working relationships with internal stakeholders,
- senior leaders and external partners, including media representatives and other government
- agencies.
- Support evidencebased communication practices through research, evaluation and
- reporting, and contribute to the continuous improvement of communication systems,
- processes and products.
Eligibility / Notes
- Selection Criteria
- Highly developed written and oral communication skills, with demonstrated ability to produce
- clear, accurate and engaging content under time pressure.
- Experience supporting media, communications, or digital activities in a complex organisation,
- preferably within government.
- Sound judgement and discretion when handling sensitive, highprofile, or timecritical issues.
- Strong organisational and project management skills with excellent attention to detail, with
- the ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver quality outcomes to deadlines.
- Welldeveloped interpersonal skills and the ability to build productive working relationships
- and manage stakeholder expectations.
- Required skills and experience
- A degree in communications, journalism, marketing, international relations, or a related field,
- or equivalent relevant experience.
- Understanding and experience developing social media campaigns and using social media
- platforms and associated analytics or monitoring tools.
- Knowledge of, or the ability to quickly acquire knowledge of, the Australian Public Service
- environment.
- Understanding of issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and culturally
- appropriate communication practices.
- Experience working in a legal environment will be highly regarded.
