The Armourer role at the Australian Federal Police National Armoury is a hands-on technical position. Duties (What You Will Do)

Key Responsibility Specific Tasks
Technical leadership Support Team Leader in decision-making and daily operations; prioritise workflow; act as subject matter expert on firearms and related equipment.
Armoury operations Supervise Armourers, conduct advanced fault diagnostics, manage weapons maintenance schedules, ensure safety and compliance.
Asset accountability Handle, inspect, maintain firearms and accessories; ensure serviceability and regulatory compliance; prepare for deployment.
Safety and compliance Maintain documentation, follow AFP Safety Framework, contribute to continuous improvement of procedures.
Teamwork and communication Collaborate with team members and stakeholders; report findings and recommendations clearly.

About You (Eligibility)

  • Australian citizenship at the time of application.
  • Negative Vetting 1 (Secret) clearance or the ability to obtain one.
  • Certificate III (or equivalent) in a recognised mechanical trade field.
  • Ability to complete required internal and external courses.
  • Sound mechanical aptitude and attention to detail.
  • Commitment to safety and procedural compliance.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment and strong communication skills.
  • Desirable: Engineering (Mechanical) Cert III, Fitter and Machinist; Armoury knowledge; logistical experience.
