The 2027 Graduate Development Program is a structured, learning-focused opportunity across multiple Home Affairs divisions. You’ll rotate through three placements over 10 months, doing operational, policy or project work while building skills, networks and confidence. From day one you’ll contribute real work, supported by mentors and a clear development plan, with the aim of growing into an APS4 role and potentially advancing to APS5 on successful completion.

Duties (What You Will Do)

Key Responsibilities Specific Tasks
Rotate through teams and gain broad exposure Participate in three distinct rotations across diverse business areas; observe, learn and contribute.
Support government priorities Assist with operational, policy, program or project work to advance strategic goals.
Research, analysis and information gathering Help gather data, prepare briefings and inform decision-making.
Prepare briefs and written material Draft reports and materials for varied audiences with clarity and purpose.
Engage with stakeholders Collaborate across teams and external partners to achieve outcomes.
Contribute to continuous improvement Support daily operations and process improvements within your team.
Learn from mentors Receive guidance and feedback to build capability and confidence.

About You (Eligibility)

  • Australian citizen
  • Australian Qualifications Framework Level 7 qualification (Bachelor) or higher by 31 December 2026
  • Able to obtain and maintain an Employment Suitability Clearance (or onboarding check) as applicable
  • Willing to obtain Australian Government security clearances (Negative Vetting 1, with potential ESC for some roles)
  • Degree may be from overseas if recognised by the Department of Education, Skills and Employment
  • Strong communication, collaboration and adaptability; eager to learn and contribute
