About the Opportunity
The Staff Health Clinical Advisory Team provides evidence-based clinical advice to support health governance and staff health policies within the Department of Home Affairs. You’ll be part of a multidisciplinary group that informs policy, program delivery and health risk management for ABF/Home Affairs staff health matters. The role is pivotal in complex, urgent or high‑profile cases, ensuring clinical integrity and accountability.
Our ideal candidate brings a fellowship from a relevant medical college, substantial hands-on experience in occupational medicine within Australia, and a track record of working in government or regulatory settings with complex operational environments. You’ll work across stakeholders, balancing scientific rigour with practical, actionable guidance and a collaborative team culture that values inclusivity and continuous improvement.
Duties (What You Will Do)
| Monitor, analyse and interpret health data to inform staff health policy development, program delivery and risk management. |
| Provide expert clinical and medical advice on occupational and environmental health matters, including guidance for service providers and policy processes. |
| Undertake quality assurance activities, including desktop and onsite audits, and review systems to drive improvements. |
| Engage with internal and external stakeholders to support service delivery and shared outcomes. |
| Communicate effectively with diverse audiences and contribute to a positive, inclusive team culture through clear written and verbal communication. |
About You (Eligibility)
- Australian Citizen
- Must obtain and maintain Baseline (Protected) security clearance
- Must be registered, or eligible to be registered, as a medical practitioner in Australia
- Must hold or be eligible for fellowship from a relevant specialist medical college (preferably Australasian Faculty of Occupational and Environmental Medicine)
- At least five years of clinical experience in occupational medicine in Australia
- Desirable: government/regulatory experience overseeing complex operational environments
- Soft skills: collaborative, stakeholder-focused, adaptable communication, and strong professional judgment
