Duties

  • ASD 4
  • Officers at this level would be required to provide administrative support to mission delivery and
  • undertake some research and analysis activities. Officers may have public contact and may be
  • required to communicate with and provide advice to a range of external stakeholders. Working
  • under general direction, they undertake tasks of moderate complexity.
  • They also have:
  • An ability to work confidently and collaboratively within an integrated, multidisciplinary team.
  • Clear and concise written and verbal communication skills.
  • Professional and respectful stakeholder engagement.
  • Proven ability to balance competing tasks and deadlines.
  • Commitment to accurate, timely and efficient support that enables mission delivery.
  • High attention to detail and consistent production of quality work.
  • Research and analytical skills to interpret information effectively.
  • Contribution to documentation reviews and quality-assurance processes.
  • Ability to prepare routine minutes, reports and administrative products.
  • Initiative and sound problem-solving skills to manage emerging priorities.
  • ASD 5
  • Officers at this level contribute to mission delivery and play an essential role across ASD’s
  • administrative and stakeholder engagement functions. Working under limited direction, they
  • manage moderately complex tasks, support effective decision-making and help ensure operational
  • continuity across the organisation.
  • They also have:
  • Have accountability for completion of allocated tasks, organising workflow, review of work
  • and development of less experienced employees
  • Have a good understanding of relevant legislation and policy frameworks
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders on moderately complex operational and
  • administrative matters.
  • Identify issues and contribute to the resolution of issues and problems
  • Resolve moderately complex enquiries from stakeholders and provide information and
  • advice as a representative of the work area.
  • Build rapport and maintain stakeholder relationships within defined parameters.
  • Represent the work area at internal and external meetings and conferences.
  • ASD 6
  • Officers at this level manage more complex work, contribute specialist advice and exercise greater
  • independence. They may coordinate small teams or work programs and play a key role in driving
  • improvements, managing risks and supporting strategic outcomes.
  • They also have:
  • An ability to make independent, well-reasoned decisions within defined parameters.
  • Experience preparing high-quality written submissions, briefs and corporate reports.
  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving capability, including risk assessment and
  • recommendations.
  • Strong ability to prioritise and manage resources in dynamic and fast-paced environments.
  • Proactive coordination that supports the efficiency and effectiveness of broader teams.

Eligibility / Notes

  • Australian Citizenship – Applicants must be an Australian citizen. Only in exceptional
  • circumstances can this requirement be waivered.
  • Organisational Suitability Assessment – The preferred applicant will be required to
  • undergo an Organisational Suitability Assessment (see Organisational Assessment section).
  • Security Clearance – It is a condition of employment that applicants are willing and able to
  • obtain and maintain the requisite security clearance for the duration of their employment with
  • ASD.
  • Health Assessment – The preferred applicant may be required to undergo a medical
  • examination conducted by the Agency’s preferred medical provider.
