As a Publishing Officer, you will work within the Publications group to prepare accurate electronic compilations of Acts and instruments, proofread and edit legislative documents, and publish material on the Federal Register of Legislation. You’ll coordinate printing and tabling processes, support Parliament processes, and help develop guidance materials while building strong relationships with clients and stakeholders.

About the Opportunity

The Office of Parliamentary Counsel (OPC) seeks a capable Publishing Officer to join a small, collaborative team responsible for legislative publishing and editorial activities. You’ll contribute to the clear, accessible Commonwealth law that OPC delivers, while developing your expertise in legislative processes and publishing. The role suits someone mid-career who is proactive, adaptable and keen to help others grow.

You’ll work across a range of duties, from preparing electronic compilations to coordinating printing for Parliament, while maintaining high quality standards. Duties (What You Will Do)

Preparing accurate electronic compilations Acts, instruments and other legislation; resolve complex issues; ensure quality standards
Proofreading and editing Draft Bills, instruments and documents; provide detailed editorial feedback
Publishing on the Federal Register of Legislation Publish Acts, instruments, Gazette notices; resolve complex issues and queries
Organising Bills for printing Prepare for printing and introduction in Parliament; track passage
Royal assent and delivery Obtain Royal Assent; organise printing and delivery of instruments for tabling
Stakeholder engagement Develop relationships with internal/external clients and service providers
Technical research and analysis Respond to complex client queries; support development of guidance materials
Training and development Support and mentor less experienced staff in Publications processes
Leadership and standards Assist in setting priorities, standards, and deadlines; contribute to work planning

About You (Eligibility)

  • Australian citizenship is required
  • Ability to obtain and maintain AGSVA Baseline security clearance
  • Well-developed administrative and organisational skills with high attention to detail
  • Strong written and verbal communication; ability to liaise effectively with stakeholders
  • Ability to contribute to process improvements and adapt to change
  • Sound knowledge of legislative processes and ability to understand complex legislation
  • Experience in training and supporting colleagues in publishing processes
