Health Vacancy

Duties

  • Your duties and responsibilities will be aligned to the relevant APS Work Level Standards.
  • In this role you will be required to:
  • Manage the Health Services Branch within People Division.
  • Provide advice on complex case management and coordinate medical evacuations and
  • health care for staff and their dependants posted overseas.
  • Manage and supervise the work of Canberra-based doctors and psychologists, an
  • administrative support team and four out-posted medical officers attached to overseas
  • missions in Dili, Honiara, Jakarta and Port Moresby.
  • Manage medical clearances for employees and dependants prior to posting and provide
  • advice to employees on health issues, including through presentations at conferences and
  • meetings.
  • Manage the implementation of DFAT’s medical and psychology services in a clinically and
  • financially responsible manner.
  • Formulate and implement health policies and programs.
  • Provide regular reporting to the executive on the strategic direction and objectives of the
  • department’s health services for its staff in Australia and staff and dependants overseas.
  • Gather information on disease status and medical facilities abroad through regular liaison
  • with government departments in Australia and overseas and with other relevant
  • organisations and stakeholders.
  • Monitor and respond to the changing medical contexts where DFAT staff are operating.
  • Prepare, coordinate and maintain health services crisis plans.
  • Work collaboratively with senior executives to provide leadership, strategic direction and
  • effective management of the Health Services Branch.
  • Manage contracted service providers.

Eligibility / Notes

  • Specialist registration as a general practitioner under the law of a state or territory of Australia,
  • including recent general practice experience, is mandatory.
  • Current unrestricted AHPRA registration as a specialist General Practitioner is essential.
  • Recent General Practice experience.
  • Fellowship of AFOEM, AFPH or RACMA is desirable.
  • Experience in tropical and travel medicine, aeromedical evacuation, paediatrics and
  • obstetrics, are all considered advantageous.
  • Certified copies of tertiary qualifications and other appropriate documentation must be presented
  • on request.
  • Candidates must be Australian citizens. This is a security-designated position.
  • Prior to engagement, selected candidates will be required to obtain an Australian national security
  • clearance at Negative Vetting Level 2.
  • Ongoing employment with the department requires the successful candidates to maintain a
  • security clearance. Loss of a security clearance at any time will lead to termination of employment.
