What we do
The Infrastructure and Operations and Core Systems Divisions are part of the TDP Group.
Infrastructure and Operations is responsible for maintaining national critical infrastructure for
Services Australia and across government. We deliver a robust, secure, and resilient ICT
environment so Australian citizens can access government services 24×7.
The Core Systems Division delivers simple, helpful, respectful, and transparent services by
maintaining Centrelink, Child Support and Health systems that allow the processing of customers
claims and payments every day.
Senior Technical Engineer – DevOps APS6
Senior Technical Engineer – DevOps roles are focused on building and updating solutions that
enhance the Agency’s DevOps maturity using techniques such as Infrastructure as Code, GitOps,
and CICD pipelines to rapidly provision infrastructure and automate application deployment.
Our ideal candidate will have a sound understanding of DevOps principles and the skills to clearly
communicate technical ambition and outcomes to a range of technical and non-technical
stakeholders.
Technical Engineering Expert – DevOps EL1
Technical Engineering Expert – DevOps role is a senior, hands-on role focused on strengthening
platform reliability, automation, and security across critical systems and leads the design, delivery
and maintenance of DevOps solutions, including CI/CD pipelines, automation tools and
deployment processes.
You will provide technical leadership, mentor others, and drive continuous improvement across
platforms and processes.
Duties
- Senior Technical Engineer – DevOps, APS 6
- Build, maintain, enhance, monitor, and troubleshoot CICD pipelines.
- Write and maintain scripts (Python and Bash) to automate DevOps tasks.
- Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using tools such as Ansible and other
- automation frameworks.
- Implement and support Configuration as Code (CaC) practices to ensure consistent,
- compliant and auditable environments.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to resolve technical issues.
- Drive improvements in the security, scalability, and performance of our infrastructure and
- applications.
- Support and promote adoption of new tools, platforms, and practices.
- Document processes and best practices to facilitate knowledge sharing within the team.
- Technical Engineering Expert – DevOps, EL1
- Lead the adoption and continuous improvement of DevOps practices.
- Design and implement secure, scalable CI/CD pipelines.
- Lead Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and Configuration as Code (CaC) practices.
- Provide technical leadership across platforms and automation.
- Drive automation to improve efficiency, reliability, and scalability.
- Lead delivery of complex DevOps and platform solutions.
- Resolve complex ICT, system, and pipeline issues.
- Mentor team members and support capability uplift.
Eligibility / Notes
- Essential Requirements
- Security Clearance: Negative Vetting Level 1 (or the ability to obtain and maintain).
- Desirable Qualifications
- Minimum 4+ years experience, with exposure to DevOps or platform environments.
- Experience supporting ICT and cyber security practices within government or similar
- environments.
- In accordance with section 22(6) of the Public Service Act 1999, Services Australia requires
- applicants to be Australian citizens to be eligible for employment with Services Australia.
- An applicant’s suitability for employment with the agency will be assessed through a
- pre-employment screening process. This process includes but is not limited to a national police
- history check, referee checks, code of conduct check and an employment history integrity check.
- Some positions within Services Australia may be required to work in settings where mandatory
