About Australian Digital Health Agency

As the Director, Clinical Terminology (EL2), you will play a pivotal leadership role in shaping and
advancing clinical terminology and interoperability across the Australian health sector. Reporting
to the Branch Manager, Informatics and Standards, you will drive the delivery and strategic
direction of nationally significant clinical terminology, including the coordination of National
Release Centre products and services. This full-time ongoing opportunity will see you provide
strategic product leadership, foster jurisdictional and industry adoption, represent Australia in
international forums, and build strong partnerships with a broad range of stakeholders to support
the delivery of national digital health priorities.
Leading a high-performing team, you will combine deep expertise in clinical terminology,
standards and digital health with strong program, people and stakeholder management
capabilities. You will oversee complex projects in a multi-vendor environment, contribute to
national standards development, and lead governance, education and engagement activities that
strengthen terminology adoption and interoperability across the healthcare system. This is an
exciting opportunity for an experienced leader with expertise in SNOMED CT AU, the Australian
Medicines Terminology (AMT) and interoperability standards to influence the future of digital
health and deliver meaningful outcomes at a national scale.

Duties

  • Skills and Experience
  • Expert knowledge of clinical terminology and interoperability standards, including SNOMED
  • CT AU, Australian Medicines Terminology (AMT), and HL7 FHIR.
  • Proven leadership and people management experience, with the ability to lead
  • high-performing teams and deliver strategic outcomes in complex environments.
  • Strong program and project management capabilities, including experience delivering digital
  • health initiatives within multi-vendor environments and managing competing priorities.
  • Exceptional stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills, with a
  • demonstrated ability to influence and collaborate across government, industry, jurisdictions,
  • and international forums.
  • Strong communication and strategic thinking skills, with experience preparing high-quality
  • briefs, reports, governance papers, and executive-level advice.
  • Extensive knowledge of digital health, standards, and interoperability, with the ability to drive
  • national adoption, governance, education, and engagement activities that support healthcare
  • transformation.

Eligibility / Notes

  • Australian citizenship is mandatory. Candidates must be able to obtain and maintain a national
  • police clearance and the required Baseline security clearance, with the ability to attain a
  • higher-level clearance if needed.
