About Australian Digital Health Agency

As the Assistant Director, Mobile Applications (EL1), you will lead the Mobile Development team,
shaping the strategy, delivery, and performance of the Agency’s mobile products in a full-time,
ongoing role. Working under the broad direction of the Director, Software Engineering, you will
oversee the end-to-end development and continuous enhancement of key mobile applications,
including the widely used 1800MEDICARE app. This is a pivotal opportunity to lead the delivery of
new features and enhancements, while ensuring reliable, high-quality operational support across
the Agency’s mobile ecosystem.
Operating with a high degree of autonomy, you will provide strategic leadership on initiatives,
guide technical direction, and lead the resolution of critical issues. You will build strong
relationships with stakeholders across and beyond the Agency, translating business needs into
impactful digital outcomes, while inspiring and leading high-performing teams. This role offers the
chance to influence nationally significant digital health services and make a meaningful impact on
how Australians access healthcare information and support.

Duties

  • Skills and Experience
  • Tertiary qualification in IT and/or Business (mandatory), with relevant certifications and
  • training.
  • Demonstrated leadership in mobile application development, including delivery of new
  • features, enhancements, and ongoing operational support across iOS and Android
  • platforms.
  • Strong technical capability across modern development frameworks and architectures (e.g.
  • .NET MAUI, C#, APIs, cloud technologies) with a focus on scalable, high-quality solutions.
  • Proven ability to lead complex projects and teams, providing strategic direction, problem
  • solving, and stakeholder engagement in dynamic environments.
  • Experience working across delivery methodologies (e.g. Agile, program/project
  • management) and applying best practice design, testing, and CI/CD approaches.
  • Strong understanding of governance, risk, quality, and security frameworks, including
  • information and cyber security principles.

Eligibility / Notes

  • Australian citizenship is mandatory. Candidates must be able to obtain and maintain a national
  • police clearance and the required Negative Vetting 1 security clearance, with the ability to attain a
  • higher-level clearance if needed.
